Davison Orchards

Last Day

The 55+ BC Games are winding down and so we headed home, stopping first though at the Davison Orchards to see what they had and buy some Honeycrisp apples.  It sits on the hillside above Vernon and looks across the valley, what a beautiful setting and place.

They had a goat barn, sheep, mules, and even a few chickens running around free

This is where their huge kitchen / processing and baking is done

They advertise pie and coffee under 'Breakfast' items - we happily took them up on that idea!

Pumpkin Castle

So we had our breakfast there, did a little grocery and knick-knack shopping,  then we got on the road.  I even came away with an idea for my Fall display outside our front door, can't wait to get going on it now!

The Scenic Sip

Our game plan was to tour eight wineries on 'The Scenic Sip Tour' which is in Lake Country between Vernon and Kelowna, but we were in no rush so we actually just made it to four.

The Chase Wines

The first winery we stopped at was Chase Wines, the fellow hosting there was very informative so we spent some time there talking with him and tasting wine.  It's the newest on the tour, they've only been in business for three months.  The owner is a retired gentleman of 71 years of age who had always wanted to open a winery - thus the name 'Chase', he says 'It's never too late to chase your dream!'

Intrigue Wines

This winery has been operating for nine years, it's owners live in a house on the hill just up in behind.  It turned out that the young woman behind the counter here actually grew up in Mission and went to Heritage Park High School when it first opened.

Gray Monk Estate Winery

Beautiful view from the deck that opens up off of the wine tasting room.

The grapes are ready for harvesting and pressing now that it's September.

Arrowleaf Cellars

We managed to choose another three bottles of wine from the Arrowleaf Cellars to add to our collection today, this was our last stop and it too had an amazing view of the lake.  We may be back to do the last four wineries around here before we leave for home on Friday, we definitely enjoyed these ones.

Vernon - September 2017

We've been looking forward to spending the better part of a week in Vernon for a few months now, Ted was to be playing tennis in the 55+ BC Games in Vernon and I was going along for some R&R.

Unfortunately Ted sprained his ankle in a tournament last weekend so he's been sidelined from playing, but we'll definitely be going to watch some matches.

Monday after work we drove up the Coquihalla Highway heading to Vernon, stopping for something to eat in West Kelowna.  The sun was just setting behind the hills there, beautiful.

There was a bit of smoke in the air but not too bad...

Yesterday we lazed around in the morning and then met a friend from Fort Nelson for lunch at Earls, we spent a couple of hours reminiscing about our time spent there.  He was the PE and math teacher at the high school when our kids were there, lots of good memories to share.  He's since retired to Vernon here where he grew up, we hadn't seen him in about fifteen years but it sure didn't seem like it.  Great to reconnect!

Mr. D
Then last night we were invited to dinner up in Silver Star, tennis players from Abbotsford are staying there and they invited a group of us over.  It was good to get to know some of the people that Ted knows through playing tennis, I'm hoping to participate more once I retire in the Spring.

Today it looks like it'll be another beautiful warm Fall day, perfect for the Games.

View from our hotel room this morning

I think after we have a slow start to our day with coffee and breakfast, we'll head out to become spectators...
